NOAA 15 [NORAD 25338]
13-05-1998 - 19-08-2025 | Agency: NOAA
This was the longest living NOAA POES satellite until being shut down due to political reasons. Decommissioning took two tries, as the satellite rebooted a few orbits after its first one. It only used a damaged emergency antenna for L-band due to the others interfering with the AMSU instrument, this made the transmission strength very weak. AVHRR came close to stalling on several occasions, but always recovered.

Stereo-B [NORAD 29511]
26-10-2006 - 01-10-2014 | Agency: NASA
Stereo-B (Behind) is in a heliocentric orbit around the sun with its sister satellite, Stereo-A (Ahead). It was used for sun imaging and SEM monitoring. A planned test of the spacecraftβs automation just before the satellite passed behind the sun failed on 01-10-2014, causing the satellite to spin too quickly for the reaction wheels to correct it, resulting in a loss of communication with the spacecraft. After 22 months, on 21-08-2016, communications were restored and recovery attempts were performed through to September. On 23-09-2016, the carrier wave stopped being detected. It is suspected a frozen thruster valve came loose, increasing the spin rate even more. All subsequent attempts to find the satellite have failed.

Suomi NPP [NORAD 37849]
28-10-2011 β’ Agency: NOAA
Prototype satellite of the cancelled NPOESS series. Flown to validate the planned instrumentation, long outlived its design life of 5 years. The satellite ocassionally experiences issues with its clock, making imagery transmit with erroneous dates.
